As part of its commitment to Project Based Learning (PBL), the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation developed a K – 12 implementation strategy that resulted in the conversion of Fodrea Elementary School into the Columbus Signature Academy, Fodrea Campus. CSO Architects partnered with the district in developing a program that was reflective of best practice for a PBL school. At each grade level, two classrooms were connected in such a way that teachers and students could move freely between them. Technology is stressed as a learning tool, and each classroom has an electronic SmartBoard and presentation technology along with audio enhancements. In grades K – 2, the student to computer ratio is 1 – 3, while in grades 3 –6 , there is a 1 –1 ratio. Instead of individual desks, classrooms have student tables on wheels, so that they can easily be moved into any collaborative arrangement needed for a particular lesson.
