The Carmel Redevelopment Commission is responsible for the redevelopment efforts of both the Carmel City Center and Carmel Arts & Design District.  CSO Architects has been honored to provide, among other things, master planning services for the Carmel City Center development which, when completed, will include restaurants, retail and office spaces, luxury residences, and a world-class, 1,600-seat, performing arts center.  The Carmel Arts and Design District is a four-block radius set to re-energize Carmel’s Old Town by making it the center of an arts district.  The area - marked by four large, red brick arches that span Main Street and Rangeline Road - will include a mix of fine-art galleries, restaurants, antique shops, unusual furniture stores and design boutiques.  One of the first new buildings to appear in the Arts and Design District is the Lurie Fine Arts Gallery.  The building is a four-story mixed-use building, with a first floor retail art gallery, second floor office/retail tenants, and the Renaissance Penthouse condominiums on the third and fourth floors.  The building features a detailed signage marquee, ornate cornice, crenellated parapet, divided light windows, earth tone brick in an intricate pattern and buff colored cast stone detailing.  The building and residences were designed to appeal to a high end clientele and to be a major feature of the Carmel Arts and Design District.
